CUH MBB: Kolaric Finishes CBI Strong
April 28, 2008
Wadsworth, OH- The Collegiate Basketball Invitational is over, but not without a strong showing from Chaminade's own Marko Kolaric. Playing for Renacci-Doraty Chevy, Kolaric averaged 11 pts, to go along with a team leading 6 rebounds per contest. Kolaric shot an astounding 68% from the floor, while leading the team in both rebounds and blocked shots. Renacci-Doraty Chevy finished 2-1 in the tournament and finished in 5th place. Last year, Chaminade's All-American point guard Zack Whiting played in the event and has had an outstanding first year in Germany, playing for Leverkusen. Kolaric makes the Silverswords two for two in representing CUH in this prestigious event. Kolaric can hope to follow in Whiting's footsteps overseas. This excerpt on Whiting courtesy of the CBI website, CBI link "While in college Zack Whiting led the nation in assists per game, regardless of classification, and continued to showcase his talents in the CBI all-star game. At 6-3 with a blue collar attitude to the game, Whiting became the starter on Leverkusen, one of Germany's best teams, averaging 7.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game while leading them to a second place finish in the regular season. It could be argued that Whiting has experienced the best success among CBI alumni this past season on the international playing field." "The exposure our players receive here, courtesy of the Maui Invitational, is second to none. It has allowed them to be seen NBA and international scouts, and to be selected for various awards, and post-season tournaments, like the Collegiate Basketball Invitational. Because of this, many of our players continue playing professionally when they are done at Chaminade. To see our graduates succeeding the way they have is a tremendous compliment to both the players themselves and our institution" stated Coach Mahar. Chaminade finished the 2007-08 campaign at 21-8, winning the Pac West conference and concluding the season as NCAA regional semifinalists.
