CUH WSB: CUH Annihilates Blue Devils, 16 to 0 and 3 to 2

March 19, 2008

Waipahu, HI- "The team played mentally tough and won the first game in convincing fashion, they hit the ball well. Chelsi Walls and Skye Virtudes did a great job in the first game and as a result they got the shut out. In the second game, we made the necessary hits to get the w. I challenged them to be mentally tough and they showed that they were with the victories in tonight's double header against University of Wisconsin Stout" as said by Head Coach Kent Yamaguchi.

The Silverswords won their first game against the Blue Devils in convincing fashion, winning 16 to 0 by way of the mercy rule. Chaminade recorded 16 hits in the victory to only 2 hits for the Blue Devils of Wisconsin Stout. CUH started off the first game with 4 runs in the first inning, 8 in the second, 3 in the third and they scored their final run of the game in the 4th inning.

Chasity Senas started off the game with a walk and Skye Virtudes advanced her to second base with a fly ball to right field. Designated hitter Brandi Sasaki singled to left advancing Senas from second to third. Valerie De Los Santos singled to second base scoring a run in the process. The remainder of the game continued with great hitting all around by all of the Silverswords, each player stepped up and in the process beat the Blue Devils by way of a 16 to 0 shut out. Freshman Ashley Hopfe said, "The team hit the ball very well today, it made me want to keep the rally going when I got to the plate. I wanted to do my best to help contribute to my teams overall success against Wisconsin Stout." Freshman Chelsi Walls got credit for the shut out victory in the first game. She said on the game, "We played a great game, the team played awesome! And I am excited that I play on a team with such enthusiasm and tonight we proved we are capable of playing well and most importantly able to win as a team."

The second game was won by, " great hitting and solid defensive performances all around" as said by Head Coach, Kent Yamaguchi. The Blue Devils stared off the second game with a 2 run first inning and it would be the only runs posted for them as CUH went on to win by a score of 3 to 2.

Freshman Melissa Harris started off the bottom of the second inning with a single and with it scored a run in the process, at the end of two CUH trailed by a score of 2 to 1. In the bottom of the 4th the Chaminade bats started to get hot, as senior, Carolyn Fisher led the inning with a single to left field. Melissa Harris scored the game clinching runs with a double to left center filed. When asked what was going through her mind with runners on first and second she said, "I love taking the plate with runners in scoring position, it makes me want to step up and do well for my team. I have to mentally get into "the zone", this game was a great team effort and we won with great hitting and great defense." Freshman Kasy'e Lalau recorded her first career win in the second game. When asked what she did to mentally prepare for the game tonight, she said, " I ate a strawberry parfait for lunch and as a result I brought my A game as against the Blue Devils. I was pleased that we were able to win and I was able to capture my first career win, I am looking forward to continued success on the mound through out my career and more importantly giving my teammates an opportunity to win games." Freshman Erin Keelan said, "We played well tonight as a team and as a result we dominated the Blue Devils."
