CUH WSB: CUH Fall to Grand Canyon in Double Header

Phoenix, AZ- Chaminade took Grand Canyon for the second day in a row and ended up losing both games today. They lost the 7 to 3 first game and in the second they lost 11 to 0. Despite the losses today, Chaminade continues to play well having won 9 out of their last 12 games. The first game started out with the Silverswords posting three runs in the first inning, thanks in large part to solid hitting from Anina Quaranto and Brandi Sasaki, both of them singled and with a couple of walks Chaminade was able to post 3 runs. At the end of the 1st inning the score was CUH 3 GCU 2. Grand Canyon went on to score three innings and held the Silverswords scoreless and as a result they posted the 7 to 3 victory. Solid defense for Grand Canyon was they key to their victory; several innings were three up and three down. Chaminade made good contact with the ball, but the Antelopes were making great defensive plays and as a result shut down the Silverswords in the first game. Freshman Chelsi Walls is charged with the loss, she falls to 6-6 overall. GAME # 2 - Chaminade fell 11 to 0 in the second game thanks in large part to great pitching from GCU's Michelle Farrell. She pitched all seven innings and only gave up 4 hits to the 25 Chaminade batters she faced. She also struck out 5 batters and in the course of 7 innings she didn't walk a single batter. Kasy'e Lalau is charged with the loss for Chaminade, she falls to 1-7 overall. Kelli-Grace Saniatan went a perfect 2 for 2 on the day. She singled both times, once up the middle and the other to left field. Skye Virtudes singled up the middle and Ashley Hopfe also singled to left field. With the losses today CUH falls to 9-12 overall and 4-12 in the Pacific West Conference, Grand Canyon improves their record to 12-13-1 and 7-5 in the Pacific West Conference. The next game for the Silverswords is in Stainislaus, CA. Chaminade will play there for the next four days in a tournament. Their first game is against Cal-State Monetrey Bay, first pitch is set for 12:15PM PST.
